Mediation is an option available to a husband and wife who wish to obtain a divorce and it may not require either party to make any court appearances.

Mediation is a non-adversarial process that allows husband and wife to resolve all of their divorce issues with the assistance of a mediator.  These issues include:

  1. Parenting plans
  2. Child and Spousal Support; and
  3. Division of property and debts

Mediation is less stressful, less time-consuming, and less expensive than a litigated divorce.  On average it is estimated that a litigated divorce in California costs approximately $17,000 per person*.

However, at the Law Office of K.J. Petsas, PC we employ a fee structure that is extremely flexible and cost effective.  Ideally, the mediation process will be completed in three phases.  First, husband and wife participate in hourly-billed mediation sessions in order to come to mutual agreement on any contested issues.  Once an agreement is reached on all issues, the second phase begins with the husband and wife paying a flat fee for preparation of a settlement and agreement and all judgment documents.  Finally, the mediator files all the documents with the court and mails the final judgment to husband and wife.
